Hinckley News:
2012

Firstly, happy new year to you and thank you for taking time to read my blog. I have been trying to write a weekly blog since September last and so far I have managed to go on about one thing and another. I was always concerned as to what I should write about and would I run out of ideas? Well so far so good.

So as we pack away the Christmas decks for another year, I got to wondering if this year will go even faster than the previous one? Or is it just a case of getting older and they say it goes faster.

Looking back to last year and we really saw some milestones and achievements at Castle Mead Radio. Firstly we relaunched our website, got ourselves on Twitter and Facebook and then launched our internet service exactly 21 years to the day of launching the station way back in 1990. A fantastic party was organised at the Ashby Road Sports Club in October which was a huge success and many faces from the past joined us for the night.

So what does 2012 hold for us at the station and the country. Well to me the most important event of the year will not be the olympics! Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against them and I am sure it will be a great games. Nor will it be the Euro 2012 finals…..I suppose we will loose on penalties to either Germany or someone! The most important event this year to me will be the Queens Diamond Jubilee. Whatever you may think about the monarchy you cannot but admire Queen Elizabeth for her dedication and service to this country. Furthermore now at her age she still shows no signs of slowing down. She has been the single constant thing in my lifetime. I was born in 1957 and she had already been on the throne five years! She has seen some amazing things during her long reign, post war Britain, the swinging sixties, man on the moon, turbulent seventies etc etc. I think that this year and her Diamond Jubilee will be a great way to thank this extraordinary lady for her service to this country. She is obviously going to overtake Queen Victoria as our longest ever reigning monarch. I fear that we won’t really know what we have had in her until she sadly passes from our time. Realistically Prince Charles will reign for a relativity short time following his mother’s reign before William and Kate take up their roles of King and Queen. I do hope that I can live long enough to witness them both as King and Queen.

So here’s to 2012, we have a lot to look forward to this year as a nation, the Olympics, Euro 2012 and the Queens Diamond Jubilee. One this is for sure we will not see such momentous events again for a very very long time.
